These masterly leaves representing scenes in the life of Achilles, are major discoveries informing the œuvre of Italian sculptor, painter and engraver Giuseppe Cades. They date to the 1770s, when Cades was only twenty years old, and so are a particularly accomplished example of the original style that the artist had made his own - combining the Mannerism of the sixteenth century with the art of his contemporaries.
