When I first started yoga, I was the weakest person in the room. There was just no way that I could have done the challenging asana that looks like a push-up. Now when I share yoga practice with students who, like me, struggle with strength, I always recommend starting off with Plank Pose, called Utthita Chaturanga Dandasana in Sanskrit because it is the most accessible version of Plank Pose I have found. Since the arms are straight, it is a bit easier to find healthy muscular and skeletal alignment without demanding too much upper-body strength from the start. Plank Pose allows students to build strength in all the right places with as much ease and comfort as is possible in an arm balance.
