Either conscious or oblivious, prolific on every wall, in every corner of anyplace you go, is perfectly placed art. In corners of a home or on walls of small roadside stores, each a mini Guggenheim museum. The small momma papa shop in Kumar Gaon in Assam, where I drank way too much chai, was transformed into the Museo Nacional Centro. The artist made lovely use of a pink hanger when displaying clothing from the Asian art deco era. Perfectly hung on various vertical lines, jettison in random directions against the bluest wall, amongst everything else plausible to hang. Another artist created this magical installation using a black plastic chair. Upon it, they placed a vintage VideoVision television playing fight scenes from Bollywood movies, and wiring chaos, against a painted pink dripping wall. Of course, they likely had their previous exhibition at MoMA brought to the small village of Aanto in Madhya Pradesh. And a display of flower offerings, stuffed in plastic bags, how the artist applied lyrically chosen artifacts as pliers, keys, crammed on a coat rack against a watermelon skin-colored green wall. The glowing red power switch was such a nice touch too. Surely this artist had a solo show at the Tate Modern in London before reinstalling at a dhaba in Soendha. You can’t dream this art up. It’s just there.
