If you were to stand in front of a mirror what would be the first thing that you see and think about? “I don’t like my hair/teeth/nose/lips/jawline” or “wow, I look and feel so old right now” - negative statements similar to these perhaps? When we look into a mirror we see a reflection of our present superficial appearance, not of our true selves - who we truly are in mind and soul. Just as the weather changes on a continuous basis, so too will our appearance. If we sleep well me may look more fresh, if we take care of ourselves we may feel more youthful; but equally we will all age and lose the physical attributes that we were once confident of having. What we fail to see upon reflection is the complete picture of ourselves - the body mind and soul within because we have become accustomed to be transfixed on our imperfections and the way that others often unfairly judge us. I have been guilty of it too, having had my two children I’ve cried whilst looking at my body in the mirror wishing I could look 18 again - what woman hasn’t!? But instead of dwelling on the past I choose to focus on the present, to smile and be kind to myself. If you only ever surround yourself with people who criticise and control you you will never be able to love or believe in yourself and each mirror you look into will only echo their negativity and increase your insecurity, lowering your self esteem. Break the cycle and raise your standards, give your time and energy to those who truly value your worth, earn your trust and appreciate your total beauty. We are all perfectly imperfect, free to be individual and able to achieve great things in life through positivity and opportunity.
