Photo by @bertiegregory The sun rises near Wapusk National Park, Canada. During late February and early March, this area is one of the best places on the planet to see female polar bears emerging from their dens with new cubs. Finding them is difficult, though. The denning area is enormous and the conditions can be brutal, with temperatures regularly dropping below minus 30°C. I was fortunate enough to work with an expert polar bear tracker, Morris Spence, who’s spent the last 40 years learning to read the signs of this landscape.
