Photo by @amivitale A fisherman works on the Danube River in the moonlight. I had the privilege of traveling the length of the Danube River as part of Danube Revisited: The Inge Morath Truck Project. Eight of us set out to follow Morath’s path along the Danube for five weeks. The photographers, each winners of Magnum’s Inge Morath Award, converted a truck into a mobile gallery space that we used to exhibit Morath’s work in the villages and towns she photographed. At the same time, we created a new body of work about contemporary life in the region, finishing groundbreaking photographer Morath's dream of following the Danube from start to finish.
A core motivation for all of us was to support the underrepresented female voice in documentary photography. We created a project that is for women, by women, and in the legacy of a pioneering woman. In line with this vision, Danube Revisited offered female photographers in the Danube region special exhibition and publishing opportunities as a part of the project.
