Celebrating Frida Kahlo, who was born #OnThisDay in 1907. Painted in 1952, `Naturaleza Viva’ is emblematic of the artist’s still lifes, of which she painted a number of between 1951 and 1954. In the present work, fruit represents fertility and regeneration, as the roots from the ground connect to structure the words "Naturaleza Viva" (Living Nature) – rejecting the "dead" implications of "Naturaleza Muerta" (Still Life).
