Watch this unboxing video of an exceptional 'oil spot' bowl from the Northern Song-Jing dynasty to be offered in #SothebysHongKong Chinese Works of Art Spring Sale on 11 July. Many of the greatest teabowls of the yuteki ("oil spotting") tenmoku (or "Yōhen Tenmoku") type that have been passed down in Japan are the products of kilns in Shanxi and other parts of North China, and the piece is the best example of its type. This piece is covered in a black glaze heightened with silver spots like snowflake crystals. Swipe left to take a closer look. This bowl most likely made its way to Japan soon after it was fired in the 12th-13th century and has been revered there ever since.
