Often associated with childhood, figures of the youthful god were typically shown with a finger raised to the mouth or holding a cornucopia, like the one shown here brimming with grapes 🍇 - The sculpture has a colourful history of ownership. It is first recorded in the inventory of ‘debauched’ Cardinal Antonio Barberini in 1671, before it descended into the collection of famed American architect Stanford White. White rose to prominence before he was scandalously murdered in 1906, in a saga which would catch the attention of the world and form the plot of a later Hollywood film, The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing 🎥 - In later years, Eros-Harpocrates stood in the Lake Michigan home of Edith Rockefeller, youngest daughter of John D.
