On Arm Day, I have always found that it’s most effective to start with tricep work first. ⁣

The triceps are be bigger muscle group of the upper arm, taking up about 60% of it. The larger the muscle group, the more energy is required to work it. ⁣

I started this workout with one of the best overall tricep builders-Smith Machine Close Grip Tricep Bench Press. ⁣

The timing of where I incorporate this movement into my arm workout will determine how heavy I go. If I start with the close grip presses, I will keep my rep range anywhere from 6-8 reps, but if I incorporate it later in my workout, I will stay between 12-15 reps with a lighter weight. ⁣

This reasoning is why it’s beneficial to start with a barbell or dumbbell movements first. The heavier the movement, and the more muscle groups are recruited, the more energy will be required to perform the movement. Therefore, incorporate the heavy movements and bigger muscle groups at the beginning of the workout. ⁣
