Registered as a National Traditional Craft in 1976, Hakata Ningyo dolls are clay dolls boasting over a history of over 400 years. These dolls first appeared when Nagamasa Kuroda, the first lord of the Chikuzen Fukuoka Clan, governed Hakata province during early 17th century. Now, you can join painting sessions and workshops at Hakata Ningyo Kaikan Shogetsudo, Yuki Tanaka’s Hakata Ningyo Studio and various spots in the city. After embracing your creativity with the lifelike dolls, you can bring them home with you as souvenir.
