Yanagawa City in Fukuoka is well-known as a castle town in the 16th century. With hundreds of thousands of remaining water-filled moats and waterways flowing through the city, it is even nicknamed as "the Japanese version of Venice".
Enjoy a 50-minute train ride from Fukuoka downtown to this nostalgic streetscape. Here you can ride Donko boats, a traditional gondola-like boat, on which veteran boatmen will guide tourists through the history of Yanagawa. Don't forget to put on a bamboo hat during the Yanagawa River Cruising for the best immersive experience!
