Completely White Faces at the 300-Year-Old Oshiroi Matsuri!😲✨
The Oshiroi Matsuri is a traditional event held at Oyamazumi Shrine in Asakura City that has been taking place for more than 300 years.⛩️
Oshiroi, a mixture of pulverized “shinmai” (new rice) and water, is applied on the face to pray to deities for sound health and an abundant harvest. The amount of oshiroi that sticks to the face is used to predict how crops will grow in the coming year. This custom is unique and rare even in Japan!🌾
Participants must not take off the oshiroi until they get home. It is said that if burnt it will cause a fire, but if you go home and mix it in the feed for cattle and horses and let them eat it, it will bring good health.🤩
Asakura City is also home to lush nature and the famous Harazuru Onsen hot spring, so be sure to visit!✨
