Happy Throwback Thursday! When the Museum’s Hayden Planetarium first opened in October 1935, it was only the fourth planetarium in the United States. Inside the 75-foot dome, many New Yorkers saw—for the first time—all of the stars visible to the unaided eye, as well as the Sun, Moon, and planets. Before opening day, the Museum held a contest: More than 3,500 high school students were invited to compete for a chance to have their Hayden Planetarium poster exhibited at the Museum! Below is one of those prize-winning submissions.

I loved the Hayden Planetarium! The Rose Space Center is gorgeous, but the Hayden Planetarium was old school charming and filled with nostalgia. They used to have a show in December that scientifically explained what the star over Bethlehem may have been. It was a nice lense to view the holiday through, old-fashioned and good hearted. I wish they could have moved the building to another community that needed a planetarium. It was a little gem.

If you made this into a poster design today, I would buy that poster in a heartbeat and proudly display it in my home. This is gorgeous, and it represents one of my favorite places!

I remember going there on a field trip as a kid and also going to Lazerium there. Fantastic.
