Did you know that the coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) is the world’s tallest tree? It can grow over 300 feet (91 meters) tall, have a trunk width of more than 27 feet (8 meters), and live as long as 2,000 years old! The majestic tree once had a wide range across the Northern Hemisphere, but today it only occupies a narrow 450-mile (724-kilometer) strip of forest along North America’s Pacific Coast. It’s also fast-growing: in perfect conditions, the coniferous tree can grow over 1 foot (30 centimeters) in just 1 year!
