Did you know that the Toco Toucan (Ramphastos toco) is the largest species of toucan? It’s native to the tropical forests of South America, and its bright red-orange bill can grow up to nearly 8 inches (20 centimeters) long. While it might seem like a hefty body part, the bill is hollow and surprisingly lightweight. The toucan leverages its bill for a variety of tasks such as reaching for and peeling skin off of fruit, preening its feathers, or showcasing it during courtship displays.
