Are you showing off your colors like the cecropia caterpillar (Hyalophora cecropia) this weekend? Its bright colors and spines might make you want to keep your distance, but it poses no real threat. The chunky caterpillar can grow as long as 4 inches (10.2 centimeters). When it becomes a moth, its wingspan can reach up to 6 inches (15.2 centimeters). That makes it the largest moth native to North America! It has a wide range across Canada and the United States, where you can spot it east of the Rocky Mountains.
