my social media journey began as a storyteller. I’d write about my recovery, my discoveries, and the in-between joys and adversities that meet me along the way. I loved sharing what self-love did to my life - not as a mere Pinterest-worthy idea, or a state of mind we ought to adopt.

instead, it was personal: self-love changed my life. It taught me that self-acceptance that had no parameters, judgement, or conditions, is the most fulfilling love I will ever know. And that if I can adopt even a bit of that into my life, my world will change forever.

and it did.

5 years later, I am happy, recovered, and at peace with my skin. I’ve grown from a battleground of self-hatred, and from those grounds I grew a garden in place of the ruins.

but it wasn’t always easy. It wasn’t as simplistic as chanting affirmations to myself, or exercising, or washing my face twice a day. It wasn’t as clear cut as a foam-filled bubble bath or homemade soup.

sometimes, it was tough love.

sometimes it was about taking a hard look at my life, with honesty that makes me uncomfortable.

It’s catching myself on my own bull crap, and not allowing myself to make excuses.

sometimes it’s relentless and blunt.

But it always *always*
coming from love.

In fact, I believe tough love is self-love, it’s just a bit rougher around the edges.

because while we need gentleness and understanding to form openness, we depend on trust to build relationship, even when honesty is hard to hear. Tough love takes your greater interest into account, and weighs your happiness over a uncomfortable conversation.

and that is because love is kind, and opposes anything in your life that isn’t.

even if the message comes with force, it is for love.

sharing this on a week where tough love was the way to my heart🌻

I hope this resonates with some of you💜💪🏼
