There are many colorful birds in the Photo Ark, but this spangled cotinga @officialdwazoo is among the boldest of the bunch with its bright turquoise blue and purple plumage. Found in the Amazon rain forest, this species frequents fruiting trees to forage for food, but is often spotted perched in dead branches that emerge from the top of the tallest trees. Similar to other members of the genus Cotinga, this bird lacks true vocalizations, though its wings have been known to make a whistling sound during flight. Protecting the rain forest is key to saving this and hundreds of other species that depend on it for food and shelter.
