Habitat used by the endangered Amargosa vole @ucdavisvetmed is often small and occurs in patches. This results in isolated “island” populations that make it very difficult for voles to interact and breed with one another. This isolation, paired with competition from other rodent species for resources, leads to an increased risk of extinction.
