Good Morning Britain. ☀️ I LOVED being on @gmb this morning discussing whether or not Barbie is a good role model. Here's a few points I'd like to make: nothing to do with the debate, but I'm shocked at how many of my friends or people online told me they weren't allowed a Barbie because she had an adult body or because she was tarty. An adult body is not sexual! Isn't it interesting that even women are subsciously teaching our kids that boobs are "tarty" and a female body sexual. No wonder so many of us big-boobed girls suffer slut-shaming. OUR ?BODIES ? ARE ? NOT ? OUR ? MORALS. ? I think Barbie is the biggest bad-ass feminist because she shows you can be beauty AND brains. ??♀️ Barbie has had over 200 professions, different body shapes and is available in 7 skin colours, 22 eye colours, and 24 hair types. ??‍♀️ I am VERY aware I am white, blonde, with a similar body shape (one that isn't accepted in fashion), but I feel that, whilst more can always be done, the Barbie brand does listen to controversy and feedback and has been championing diversity for years. Here's some facts I learnt and found interesting: 1967/8: Barbie launched what is believed to be the first African-American doll, called Francie & then Christie. 1980: Barbie launched its first range of Hispanic dolls 1990: Barbie hosted a focus group with African-American mums and kids and a parent psychologist to create dolls with different features, skin tones, and hair textures. 1997: Barbie launched its first doll in a wheelchair. A 17 year old girl with cerebal palsy wrote in to say the wheelchair didn't fit through the doors of the Barbie Dreamhouse, so they redesigned the house. 1997: Barbie's mould was redesigned and she was given a wider waist. 2016: Barbie released a range of curvy, tall, and petit models. Curvy Barbie was their best-selling model last year and made the front cover of Time magazine! ❤️ Much love to my friend @montanarosebrown1 for making brilliant points too. Despite our differing opinions we have an underlying love and respect - I think the internet needs to remember at times that we can disagree, listen to and inform each other with kindness. ? #barbie #gmb
