Happy to join 200 Merdeka Generation (MG) Singaporeans at @gardensbythebay this morning, to pay tribute to their efforts in shaping Singapore.
The MG story is closely intertwined with the Singapore Story. The Pioneer Generation laid the foundation, and the Merdeka Generation built upon it. They helped Singapore go from Third World to First, in just one generation! From global economic crises to SARS and terrorism, the MG have helped us weather the storms, and Singapore is the stronger for it.

There are about 500,000 in the #MerdekaGeneration, many in their 60s. The Merdeka Generation Package, which I announced last year, is a modest gesture of our appreciation for all their contributions. Ministers Heng Swee Keat and Gan Kim Yong will be announcing the details in Parliament later this month. Thank you for helping to shape Singapore! – LHL (MCI Photos by Chwee)
