In 1947, Mary Motschenbacher's and Beth Boatz's uncle bought this Plymouth new from a dealership in Fargo, N.D., which is still open for business. ⠀ ⠀ After their father took over the car in the mid-'60s, the two sisters and their other siblings learned how to drive in it.⠀ ⠀ "We had a good family, but we did not have a lot of material things," said Ms. Motschenbacher, 68, "so this was a big deal."⠀ ⠀ The 1948 model was well known to their high-school friends in Humboldt, Minn., the small town of about 100 people where the sisters lived. "We called it the Bomb. Like, it was so cool, it was the bomb! There were nights we would have 12 teenagers and two guitars in the car," Ms. Motschenbacher said.⠀ ⠀ By the time Ms. Boatz, 67, graduated from college, the Bomb was "a hunk of junk," she said, and it ended up sitting on a farm in Bergen, N.D., for 44 years. In 2013, she and her soon-to-be husband tracked down the Plymouth to restore it for their wedding. ⠀ ⠀ With the help of their significant others, the sisters undertook the nine-month project by researching online and visiting salvage yards.
