Strength. It comes in different forms, some overt and other times in the less obvious. Like a humble heart, for example. Often taken for weakness, but in my experience it is the opposite. A humble soul has nothing to prove. It takes responsibility for itself. It knows its own weaknesses and strengths, failures and victories, and it is free to grow and refine because there isn’t a false portrayal to carouse. There is no pride or ego to salvage, but rather character and integrity. It’s not always the popular, pop culture or favorable trend but it’s the one that yields a richness that lasts and grows, a richness that those other mirages sell but can’t deliver. I’ve never been one much for following, but I’ve chased many a mirage in my day and the older I get, the more I value the road less traveled and the treasures that are harder to come by, with character being at the top of that list because it’s a treasure that can’t be plundered, it’s one that remains for the long haul and it continually springs forth more treasures, perhaps the best ones that life can offer.
