A year ago this month I took my son on a few adventures to the @スミソニアン博物館 museums and the @ngadc. I had no idea at the time that we’d be living across the country as we are right now but I knew a big change was on the precipice. I felt both excitement and a sadness too. I knew beautiful things were ahead but I sensed a goodbye coming. Fast forward a few months to springtime and we unexpectedly bid my father farewell as he walked on from this life. And by the end of summer, I married my love, a unique story that maybe I’ll share one day. We met years and years ago and then again in the desert and then a dream brought us together for good. There’s been so much change in 2018. And I’ve changed too. It sort of feels like a little like this Jackson Pollock painting. My son especially liked this piece in its abstract vibrance and here we are accompanied by a favorite traveling companion, the Venture Backpack by @thisisground, which has certainly “ventured” with us through modern art and history, impromptu trips to the Big Apple, all our daily life meanderings and a life-changing road trip across the country. For 2019, I’m looking forward to new memories and adventures yes, but I’m also craving some peaceful sweet respite of laying roots and cherishing the little moments with loved ones, the kind that we often overlook in the cushion of familiarity but the kind that we miss the most if we let them slip through our fingers and pass us by. Here’s to holding onto the good stuff and taking time to pause more, perhaps with some intention, to appreciate the people and things we think will never not be there and the fact that each day is a gift in its own, tomorrow is never promised. So here’s to today.
