You don’t really know how much you’ve changed or grown until you look back and see where you’ve been and where you’ve walked through. The worries and struggles I was grappling with a year ago seem so inconsequential today. And I’m sure the worries of today will seem much the same in due time. Change and struggle. We somehow know both grow us into truer and better versions of ourselves but the process isn’t easy and while in it, no cliche or good-hearted advice really helps alleviate the gruel of being stretched. Our human nature wants to escape but somehow deep down we know, or at least for me, the weight of not growing, stagnation that is, is a far more grueling option, so I’m thankful for evidence that life is moving in and around me. Melancholy is like rain sometimes, a needed and beautiful renewal. Lately I’ve been in that sort of quiet reflective space and I don’t see it as a bad thing. Winter is on the horizon, and I feel a slowing down of certain parts of my heart that sorely need to rest and a soft awakening of other parts that need to come to life and bask in the snow, the starlight and the Jack Frost moon. And I’m thankful that this time around, I get to do so with my love by my side. He’s my desert sky and I’m his wilderness bloom.
