Photograph by @stephenedwardferry | Members of the indigenous Embera people were forcibly confined for months in the town of Catrú after left-wing ELN guerrillas planted land mines in order to block the incursion of their right-wing enemies to the zone. Caught in the middle of these two warring parties, the Embera were suffering shortages of food, and illnesses were spreading due to their isolation. The families depicted here came together in the plaza in order take a picture as a record of the number of people affected by the crisis. While Colombia’s peace treaty has brought a measure of calm to many areas of the country, ELN guerrillas and the paramilitaries continue to operate, especially in remote areas like Pacific coast region of Chocó.| Familias Embera confinadas al pueblo. En ese tiempo, cientos de indígenas Embera habían sido encerrados de manera forzada en Catrú por minas anti-persona sembradas por guerrillas del movimiento insurgente de izquierda ELN en aras de bloquear la entrada de sus enemigos paramilitares a la zona. En medio del fuego cruzado, los Embera sufrían por la escasez de comida, y las enfermedades se estaban esparciendo a partir del confinamiento en este pueblo. La foto fue tomada cuando la gente se agrupaba para hacer un registro fotográfico del número de personas afectadas por la crisis.
