Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell created glamorous interiors in his #Edinburgh studio in the post-Edwardian era. Refined, languid and modern, ‘The White Room’ – painted in 1915 – is distinguished by its pared-down colour scheme of black on white punctuated with bright accents of striking colour, and the swagger of its brushwork. The Colourists were arguably the most avant-garde British artists of their day, the spark of their artistic inspiration found in Paris at the turn of the 20th century. Pictures by all four artists for whom the moniker ‘Scottish Colourists’ was coined in 1948, are on view in our #London galleries this weekend, ahead of Tuesday’s sale of over 30 works acquired by their friend and patron, Major Ion Harrison. #SothebysScottish #Scotland
