Aygerym Orynbaeva milking camels on the family farm along the Shomanay Mountains in a remote part of the Mangystau region of Kazakstan. Shomanay means Five Mountains.

She was a ballerina. That afternoon, daintily a balance on one leg, Aygerym so gently milking the families camels. Men, the imbalance, doing little or nothing. So humble, she never complained, the cycle of maleness I’ve seen far too often...the burden of children, labor, economics, so wrongly placed upon women. Support rarely shared, graciousness barely respected. Please, don’t attempt to call this a cultural difference. Culture does not support oppression. Those who do not want others to move forward, equally, are the ones who oppress for their own interests. May 2018 continue to move forward the empowerment of all, no matter gender, race or being.
