Happy to welcome PM of Denmark Lars Løkke Rasmussen today.

Singapore and Denmark have a longstanding friendship. Denmark was one of the first countries to recognise us when we became independent. I believe the idea of placing our Merlion at the mouth of the Singapore River came from the famous Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen!

Mr Rasmussen and I talked about the challenges of economic structuring for small countries. Denmark and Singapore have similar population sizes, though Denmark is not such a small country! Despite differences in geography and culture, there are many things we can learn from each other, to build closer ties. Hope to strengthen the relationship and do more with Denmark. – LHL ????
