Like many countries, Singapore is vulnerable to terrorist attack. It is not a question of ‘if’, but ‘when’. Besides keeping vigilant, we also need to prepare for large-scale emergencies through realistic drills.

Attended Exercise Northstar early this morning in Changi Airport. Our security agencies, Ministry of Home Affairs, @singaporepoliceforce, @myscdf, @mindefsg, and ICA tested out their anti-terrorism capabilities. They responded to a series of scenarios, from an assault by gunmen to a suicide bomber. Uniformed and civilian officers worked swiftly to neutralise the attackers and render first aid and assistance to the injured.

Our agencies have to work hard to plan, coordinate, and practice, so that should the unthinkable ever happen, we are well prepared. My thanks to the many officers, airport staff, and some 650 volunteers who took part in the exercise in the wee hours of the morning! – LHL (MCI Photos by Fyrol)
