Although baby muskrats are capable of swimming at quite a young age, sometimes mothers will push their young out early if she’s getting ready to have a second litter. This young muskrat was found by a concerned citizen as it struggled in the reeds, unable to swim.
The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota is one of the busiest and oldest wildlife hospitals in the nation; it is estimated that 13,000+ animals will be treated there this year alone, representing more than 180 different wild species. The amazing side of their story? They’re entirely funded by donations and every single patient is brought in by someone who cares. This rehab center solely exists because Minnesotans are so interested in wildlife and go to great lengths to help animals in need.
