This #pollinatormonday brings us the energetic white-necked Jacobins hummingbird. This hummingbird has a wide range, from southern Mexico to Peru, Bolivia and south Brazil. In addition to feeding on mosquitoes and other insects for protein, this bird relies on the nectar of flowers for quick energy. Bees and other insect pollinators are often unable to reach inside tube-shaped flowers, so many native and cultivated flowering plants rely on hummingbirds for pollination, because their long and slender beaks are able to dip deep into the flower to reach the nectar. Thanks to these graceful pollinators, many diverse species of flowers are able to thrive, including the national flower of Bolivia, the beautiful tubular-shaped Qantu flower.
