Thousands of protesters gathered along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan yesterday as #DonaldTrump returned to Trump Tower for the first time as president. @ドナルド・トランプ arrived by helicopter in Lower Manhattan shortly before 9 p.m. and then made his way north in the presidential limousine. Throngs of protesters awaited his arrival, chanting as his limousin arrived: “Shame! Shame!” But the president avoided a confrontation with the demonstrators, who were photographed here by Kevin Hagen. His motorcade steered clear of Fifth Avenue and pulled up to #TrumpTower after driving the wrong way on a one-way street. Protesters said they hoped to remind President Trump of their longtime dissatisfaction and their fresh concerns about his presidency. Many said recent events — the deadly white nationalists’ rally in Virginia, his tepid response, and his threats of “fire and fury” toward North Korea — had inspired them to show up.
