#SpeakingInDance | “Through teamwork all things are possible,” reads the back of the purple T-shirt that members of the Jazzy Jumpers wear. 2 days before this #doubledutch team from #Brownsville, Brooklyn, was set to compete in the Double Dutch Summer Classic National Competition — which took place on Sunday at @lincolncenter for the first time since 1984 — they gave us a sneak preview. After warming up with speed drills and compulsory steps, which test agility and coordination, they broke into tricks. Tailaya Tomer, 21 and the team’s assistant coach, provided the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ writer @giadk with running commentary: “That was a combination of a donkey kick, a pushup and a front flip,” she said at one point. Later, there was “a rope exchange, a kick, a leg extension and a 360 split.” When it comes to acrobatic moves, Tailaya, a former Jazzy Jumper herself, said, “We like to let them play around with the ropes so they can find their own way. That’s the way we learned.” What does Toniah Rosa, 13, like about double Dutch? “Everything,” she said emphatically. “We’re more like a family. We do things with each other outside of the team.
