Yesterday, hot-air balloon enthusiasts gathered for a day of music and lighter-than-air travel at the New Jersey Festival of Ballooning. @jackiemolloy13, a photographer based in New York, was lucky enough to land a ride in a balloon — one of 3 shaped like bees. “They have special shapes, rather than just your stereotypical hot-air balloon shapes,” she said of the festival, which marked its 35th year this weekend. Her 110-foot chariot, named Lilly, was flown by Bob Romaneschi of Zing Aerosports in Peoria, Arizona. In the buzzing balloon, @jackiemolloy13 and Bob floated through a blue sky for about 15 or 20 minutes. “We landed about 3 miles away from where we had launched, in someone’s front yard,” she said. Residents who didn’t want to host #hotairballoons had marked their lawns with Xs. But when @jackiemolloy13 looked around, she spotted 5 or 6 other #balloons nearby. The only task that remained — deflation — went to children living on the block. “They let the kids roll around on the balloons to let the air out,” @jackiemolloy13 said.
