Early morning at the port of Barcelona. Spain’s economy is growing again, producing goods for export, generating jobs and restoring a sense of normalcy to a nation that has been saturated in despair. This is good news not just for Spain, but for Europe and the rest of the global economy. For most of the last decade, #Spain has suffered as an extreme example of the economic carnage that has assailed the 19 nations sharing the common European currency. Its unemployment levels peaked at 26% — a result of both the implosion of its real estate investment bubble and the global financial crisis. But now, the economy has returned to its pre-crisis size. The sense of revival is infusing a crop of start-up companies filling up the office spaces in major Spanish cities. It’s permeating the vineyards, where a crop of young entrepreneurs is reimagining family businesses. And it’s palpable along the #Barcelona waterfront, where @samuel_aranda13 took this photo. Over the first 6 months of the year, record volumes of traffic moved through the port. Visit the link in our profile to read about the end of Spain’s long economic nightmare.
