yesterday's garden harvest - bags full of crisp gently bitter lettuces, delicate wisps of fennel, squash blossoms by the armload (I see a frittata with goats cheese in our future) peas and green beans, cucumbers and the first tomatoes and peaches
I worked in the garden for a good chunk of the day - a cool breeze persisted, hinting - though we are still firmly in summer - at the waning of the season and the impending arrival of autumn. These are perhaps some of my favorite moments - that subtle shift nearly imperceptible to a place between - following the rhythm, the natural cadence of air and light that leads the days - and feeling not melancholy or nostalgia but gratitude for the rhythm and to watch as it all begins again
