The photographer @stephensperanza captured this view of the #BrooklynBridge in the mist yesterday while peeking out from a train crossing the Manhattan Bridge. The sign on subway doors says it plainly: “Riding or moving between cars is prohibited.” Generally, the sign is obeyed. But not long ago, New Yorkers routinely slid open the doors at the ends of train cars and stood in the open space as the train sped through the city. New Yorkers like the man who would become the president of the United States. “I understand the subway very well,” President Trump told @ニューヨーク・タイムズ on Wednesday when quizzed about his knowledge of the city’s infrastructure. “I used to ride between the cars.” The @nypd began cracking down on the practice about a decade ago, after it was finally made illegal to cross between cars of a stopped train. The fine for switching cars: $75. “Not that you should do it,” writes our reporter Andy Newman. “Ever.”
