a thick wooly grey has rolled in with the afternoon but earlier this morning there were beautiful slivers of light streaking through my kitchen - a mug of hot black coffee, slippered feet and a big bundle of of my favorite flowers on the counter - a few dozen white tulips - a sweet gift from my darling husband - their delicate petals somehow made more fragile feathery and transparent in this color and my favorite because they grow and change even after they are cut stretching and unfurling, turning faces toward the sun - though as I stood filling vases and arranging into this and that vessel I couldn't help but think how very like large white snowdrops they are and even with my intense love of winter how sweet those first few spring days will be
