The masked ball “lived up to nearly all of its extravagant advance notices,” @ニューヨーク・タイムズ reported 50 years ago this week. But at the time, #Capote was stunned by the number of prominent people who'd begged him to invite them. He insisted upon calling the event a “little masked ball for Kay Graham and all my friends,” referring to Katharine Graham, then the president of the @washingtonpost. The guests were "as spectacular a group as has ever been assembled for a private party in New York," @ニューヨーク・タイムズ reported. The list included 540 diplomats, politicians, scientists, painters, writers, composers, actors producers, dress designers, social figures, tycoons and what #TrumanCapote called “international types, lots of beautiful women and ravishing little things.” Capote bought his mask for 39 cents at FAO Schwarz.
