Photographers on #nytassignment have filed tens of thousands of images and logged hundreds of thousands of miles while covering the presidential campaign trail for @ニューヨーク・タイムズ. @hlswift took this photo of Ed Kirlin as people cooled off on a hot summer day during the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Ed wouldn’t say what party he was affiliated with, @hlswift recalled. “He just wanted everyone to vote.” This was @hlswift’s first time covering a presidential campaign and “only the second one I can vote in,” she said. During her time on the trail, she said, she visited more than 45 towns to document rallies and events, and she photographed at least 25 different polling locations on primary days. “I was really surprised by the people who were there,” she said. “They’re the ones who were actually interesting; the candidate wouldn’t matter if it wasn’t for the people.” As November 8 approaches, we're sharing memorable campaign photos that we’ve yet to publish here. #campaignlookback
