I want to preface this post by saying that I am not trying to get political or preachy. My goal is to educate you and shed some light on facts that we just can't ignore anymore. 1 year ago, after learning what the meat industry has done to our planet, I made the decision to adopt a plant based lifestyle. Last night I watched #beforetheflood and all of that anger at the current situation and determination to make a change came flooding back. One of the biggest contributors to the current CO2 problem is the meat industry- specifically the cattle industry. The amount of resources it takes to feed, produce, and process meat and its byproducts are not only expensive, but extremely taxing on our natural resources. And what comes out of this industry besides the meat in our burgers and the milk on our shelves? Mass amounts of CO2 and Methane which are both polluting our air and destroying or atmosphere. - It takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce 1 lb of beef from birth to shelve. - you can save more water by not eating a pound of beef than you would by not showering for 6 months. - More than 70% of the grain grown in the US is used to feed farmed animals. ?When I learned about the water I immediately thought back to being in LA early last year. I remember a friend of mine telling me that they were in a drought and that we should be conservative with our showers and water consumption. Meanwhile, every restaurant and grocery store continued to sell beef products. And that's where we all come in. It's up to all of us to use or consumer power to create a wave of change amongst the industry giants and politicians who "lead" us. It's up to us to use our voices to educate those who might not know better, and lead by example for those who refuse to listen. If you are amongst those people, I dare you to do your own research before you comment on this post. Watch some documentaries, visit some slaughter houses, use your brain. Google is a marvelous thing my friends and science doesn't lie. We have more knowledge at our fingertips than the human race ever has before. Let's use it. Join me in going meatless one day every week.? #gomeatlessoneday #knowledgeispower
