Majd Ibrahim a student, is one of 6 people whose lives are chronicled in this week’s issue of @nytmag. They’re from different regions, different cities, different tribes, different families, but they share, along with millions of other people in and from the Middle East, an experience of profound unraveling. For each of them, the upheavals were crystallized by a specific, singular event. For Majd, who was born in Homs, Syria, it came as he watched an interrogator, who thought he was a spy, searched his cellphone for the identity of his “controller.” Majd, then 21, felt his own execution drawing near. The @Magnum Photos photographer @paolopellegrin photographed Majd for this @nytmag issue, which also features 10 portfolios of his work from the region.
