Michael Phelps (@マイケル・フェルプス) took home his 13th individual gold medal in typically convincing fashion last night in Rio. He won the 200 individual medley by over a bodylength, beating not only teammate @ライアン・ロクテ, who finished 5th, but also an ancient Greek Olympian. Leonidas of Rhodes won 12 individual events over 4 Olympics. At 36, in 152 B.C., he won his last 3 golds in races of about 200 and 400 meters and in a shield-carrying race. It wasn’t easy, but @マイケル・フェルプス surpassed Leonidas last night. With the victory, he also joined the track and field Olympians Al Oerter and Carl Lewis as the only Americans to win an individual event 4 times. “He held up 4 fingers afterward to indicate his 4 consecutive victories in the event, or the 4 golds he’s won at this Olympics, or the fact that it's his favorite number,” writes @nytimessports. “Who knows. All that is certain is that the man is on a mission in what might be his last #Olympics.” @nytmills took this photo last night at @リオ五輪2016. #regram from @nytimessports #reportingfromrio
