I meet Thai PM Prayut Chan-o-cha often, but usually at international meetings. He was last here for his introductory visit a year ago. He graciously accepted my invite to speak at this year’s Shangri-La Dialogue, and I was glad to host him for tea before the event yesterday.

Thailand is an important neighbour. Many Singaporeans visit Thailand – Bangkok for shopping, Phuket and Chiangmai for holidays. We enjoy warm people-to-people ties, and close economic and security cooperation.

Strong partnership between countries is precisely what PM Prayut called for in his keynote address last night. No country can overcome its challenges alone. Only through interdependence and mutual security can we all progress together. - LHL (MCI Photo by Terence Tan)
