Photo: @rezaphotography // A Day of Love // Valentine's Day // Being a witness of the world means taking a solitary path along which I encounter human beings who offer me their sorrows, their joys, their lives. In all modesty, I am a mere repository and I try, through my photographs, to share all this with them. Despair which has been confided, violence and death which I have witnessed – these remain the snapshots which make up moments of our human history. As for me, I bear the scars in my soul and in my heart. When my wounds are reopened, I find relief in the reading of poetry and in the emotions evoked when I contemplate the miracles of nature.

As a traveler on this road of witnessing, I might have been eternally alone, but, twenty-four years ago, I encountered a love which has always found the means to make my efforts to bear witness soar even higher and farther.

Now on assignment in Iraqi Kurdistan, I take a moment to seize the beauty of this exchange between the trees and the mountains, between osmosis and a respect for nature – in the image of the love in which I so fervently believe.
