India, along with most of the developing world, is undergoing an extraordinary transformation, driven by both globalization and urbanization. Despite its role as a key player in world affairs, India is home to 300 million people who live on less than a dollar a day. Much of their strife is being further exacerbated by women's lack of place in society. Education is discouraged, agricultural technology is lacking and most women work in the unorganized, unprotected labor sector.
Ripple seeks to document organizations which empower women and girls to become leaders and key players in the path toward India's development. Two of our partners in India which you can follow on Instagram are the @BarefootCollege, an organization providing basic services and sustainable solutions to problems in rural communities, and @pardadapardadi, an all-girls school in rural India.
