Lisa Cargana Barrios Blanco, 32, a bar employee from Tornabe, Honduras. Lisa arrived in the U.S. on Sept. 16, 2014. “In Honduras, people walk, but everyone is scared — it’s a very violent country. My life was in danger because I’m a trans woman, and it’s always complicated as a trans woman ... I’m still not used to it here. In Times Square, I can walk around, and no one even looks at me.” Lisa was photographed by @jr, who prints large-scale photos of his subjects and pastes them onto rooftops, edifices, shipping containers, streetscapes and more. For #nytweekender, we’re sharing some of @jr’s portraits of recent immigrants in #NewYork, shot for #NYTMag. On Thursday, the oversize images were pasted throughout the five boroughs. Hint: You can find Lisa’s portrait on Little West 12th Street and Washington Street in Manhattan. Share your photos with the hashtag #WalkingNewYork.
