Thinh Hoang, 25, a student from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He arrived in the U.S. on Aug. 4, 2014. “I like the air in #NewYork. It’s more fresh. I usually walk around Fordham Road in the Bronx, and sometimes we jog very early, around 7 a.m. In the morning, I see a lot of people collecting the garbage, so the streets are always clean. In my country, we don’t have street-cleaning vehicles. We have people with brooms.” Thinh was photographed by @jr, who prints large-scale photos of his subjects and pastes them onto rooftops, edifices, shipping containers, streetscapes and more. For #nytweekender, we’re sharing some of @jr’s portraits of recent immigrants in #NewYork, shot for #NYTMag. On Thursday, the oversize images were pasted throughout the five boroughs. Hint: You can find Thinh’s portrait on West 23rd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues in Manhattan. Share your photos with the hashtag #WalkingNewYork.
